Sufjan Stevens - I Want to be Well
One of the great crimes of rock history is that the Pixies were never recognised at their peak. It took the recommendation of Kurt Cobain, amongst other influential musicians, for the rock press to give the band the belated credit they deserved. Today the Pixies are more popular than ever, but considering he wrote all of the band’s songs it’s surprising how overlooked Frank Black’s solo career is. Frank has been prolifically releasing great albums since 1993, with some (Teenager of the Year and Dog in the Sand in particular) standing alongside the best work of his band. So, for those either new to Frank or interested in exploring his work post-Pixies, here is a career retrospective of one of America’s great songwriters.
